A collaboration between NYnet and North Yorkshire Council to transform North Yorkshire into a “Smart County” has been shortlisted for a national award.
NYnet and North Yorkshire Council are finalists for the Connected Britain Smart Places Award, having been selected from entries nationwide. The winners will be announced at Excel in London later this month.
The work carried out so far has transformed the connectivity of England’s biggest rural county through deployment of a LoRaWAN Network covering over 85% of the geographical area of North Yorkshire.
During 2022 NYnet rolled out over 100 LoRaWAN gateways on various structures including street columns, schools, fire stations and communications masts. The project has continued to deliver further Gateways and the first off-grid Gateway, using solar and wind for power.
Benefits are already being generated from initiatives such as air quality monitoring in schools.
