A partnership between nynet and the emergency services has delivered reliable connectivity, operational confidence and a strong foundation for future innovation.
In 2025, every police and fire station across North Yorkshire was connected to nynet’s high-capacity, secure fibre network, creating a unified communications infrastructure that supports frontline services across one of England’s largest geographical counties.
Every police and fire station in the region is now connected to NYnet’s high-capacity, secure fibre network, the same robust infrastructure already serving North Yorkshire Council, creating a unified communications system designed to support greater efficiency, responsiveness and future growth.
The project formed part of a wider strategic upgrade following the recent organisational restructure of emergency services in the region.
While the original project focused on delivering a complex migration programme, both organisations say the real measure of success has been what happened after go-live.
The transition to the new network was completed smoothly, with careful planning, close collaboration and minimal disruption to operational services. Since then, the service has continued to perform strongly, providing the resilience and reliability required to support critical emergency service operations.
Alastair Taylor, CEO of nynet, said: “Large-scale infrastructure projects don’t end when the final connection goes live. The true test is how the service performs day after day and how the relationship evolves over time. We’re incredibly proud of the partnership we’ve built with North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, and the trust that has developed between our teams.” “From the outset, our focus has been on delivering not just a network, but a responsive and collaborative service. Whether that’s supporting ongoing operational requirements, managing service reviews, or simply being easy to work with, we’re committed to providing the level of support that organisations delivering critical public services need.” Since implementation, nynet has worked closely with emergency services teams through regular service reviews, providing transparent reporting, proactive issue management and continuous performance monitoring.
Lisa Stitt, Assistant Chief Officer, for North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said:
“The migration to the new network was well planned and professionally managed throughout. The transition was completed with minimal disruption and we’ve seen the benefits of the new infrastructure from day one.”
“What has impressed us most is the ongoing support we’ve received since implementation. nynet’s teams are responsive, knowledgeable and proactive, and any issues or requests are handled quickly and efficiently. The quarterly service reviews provide a valuable opportunity to track actions, review performance and ensure continuous improvement.”
The partnership has delivered consistently strong service levels, with very few faults falling outside agreed service level agreements and a collaborative approach to resolving issues whenever they arise.
“Reliable connectivity is critical to the work we do every day. Having confidence in the resilience of the network and the support behind it allows us to focus on delivering services to our communities. The relationship with nynet has been straightforward, professional and well managed throughout, and that consistency is something we greatly value.”
For nynet, the project demonstrates how digital infrastructure programmes can evolve into long-term strategic partnerships built on trust, transparency and shared objectives.
