In 2007 NYnet was incorporated by North Yorkshire County Council. NYnet is an evolution of Adit Yorkshire and Humber, the Government vehicle for aggregating broadband procurement in the public sector.
In 2008 NYnet designed its first high bandwidth broadband network around North Yorkshire. Built and managed by BT Global Services (BTGS), 500 customer sites were migrated from the incumbent supplier, which subsequently grew to 750 sites.
In 2013 NYnet designed and built its own, bench-marked, core network infrastructure, enabling it to operate beyond the borders of North Yorkshire. The new network has significantly improved an already stable service, extended the network capabilities, and reduced costs which have been passed back into the public sector.
NYnet is the delivery agent of Superfast North Yorkshire. NYnet, on behalf of NYCC is responsible for the development, procurement and delivery of the Superfast North Yorkshire Project bringing Next Generation Access to the whole of North Yorkshire.
NYnet is a Teckal compliant company qualifying through its 100% Public Sector ownership. It has pre-procured its products and services using Public Contracts Regulations 2015. This allows Public Sector customers to buy from NYnet without running a time consuming and expensive procurement process.
