Senior Systems Engineer

This employer is a Wide Area Network provider based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and are wholly owned by North Yorkshire County Council. They have built a high bandwidth Wide Area Network supporting 750+ customer sites throughout North Yorkshire and the surrounding area. NYnet has recently rolled out its own fibre network across 16 towns in North Yorkshire, while also installing public Wi-Fi and LoRaWAN across the county. NYnet is also the largest provider of Govroam in the UK NYnet are recruiting for a Senior Systems Engineer to look after its open source systems to provide it’s customers a high-class service.

The engineer will be required to have no more than 6 points on a full valid UK driving license.

Working Hours will be 35 hours between 8 and 5 Monday to Friday but some flexibility is required beyond these times.

NYnet operates a hybrid-working policy with 3 days per week in the office.

The successful applicant will be part of an on-call rota covering 1 week in 5.

A company van will also be provided.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining both physical and virtual server estate.
• Ensuring NYnet’s services are monitored 24×7.
• Look after multiple services such as DNS, RADIUS, Exim, LibreNMS, syslog and NTP servers and ensure they remain operational
• Be responsible for NYnet’s Govroam service, NYnet is the largest provider in the UK

Essential

• 5+ years using/maintaining & managing on prem Linux (preferably Ubuntu).
• Experience of open source monitoring software (Nagios, LibreNMS).
• Advanced experience of FreeRADIUS.
• Advanced experience with LXD and KVM.
• Experience with Exim and Bind.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Good customer facing skills

Desirable

• Ganeti KVM clustering.
• Ansible or other automation.
• Knowledge or experience with Eduroam or Govroam.
• Use of Git/Gitlab/Github
• Scripting skills Python, Perl, PHP
• ESXi experience
• Linux Foundation Certified Sysadmin or similar (LPIC)
• AWS Cloud Practitioner or similar entry level cloud qualification.
• Experience of working in an ISO27001 environment.
• Any Cisco routing and switching experience.
